“We often need partner companies to provide us with either capacity, industry knowledge or technical expertise. Leonidas’s employees have often represented special expertise.”

Solita trusts Leonidas’s special expertise
The cooperation between Leonidas and Solita, a digital business consultancy company, began in 2011 with a large project in public administration. Employees of Leonidas were involved in the project’s implementation, in addition to providing Agile training. Solita has utilised the professional skills of Leonidas’s employees in numerous other projects since then.
“Over the years, Solita has had various needs for subcontracting. We often need partner companies to provide us with capacity, industry knowledge or technical expertise. Leonidas’s employees have often represented special expertise,” says Sourcing Manager Veli Ijäs from Solita.
Leonidas’s employees have served in many different roles in Solita’s projects: software developers with various technologies, project managers and UX designers as well as Agile and prototyping trainers.
“All the employees of Leonidas that I know are united in their courage and ability in their own field. No one has stayed passively silent; everyone has had the courage to state their opinions. Sometimes they have even been overeager about it, though in a positive way, which is really great because it challenges the opposing side to justify their opinions better. The right direction for work can only be found through open discussion,” says Project Manager Jussi Koskinen from Solita. He has worked in the same projects with Leonidas’s employees between 2013 and 2015.
Leonidas is involved in many development projects
The atmosphere resembles that of old army buddies sitting together in the sauna when Jussi Koskinen reminisces about projects he has built together with people from Leonidas. Among other things, he has been involved in facilitating the Lupapiste project, in which experts from Leonidas earned special mentions for their courage to reform and challenge the operating methods used in the project.
“Lupapiste is developed with the Clojure language, which a smart individual from Leonidas learned within a few days. They adopted this new technology in an unassuming manner with admirable motivation, impressing the project team with their learning ability,” says Koskinen.
Lupapiste, which has now been made into its own company under the name Evolta Oy, is an electronic service for Finnish municipalities, created together with the Ministry of the Environment for the purpose of applying for building permits. The service was created by Solita, from defining the product development work to the implementation and testing.
“The people at Leonidas are very skilled workers. For the second example project, Leonidas supplied us with modern front-end expertise when we ourselves had no one available at the time who was proficient in the required implementation language. The people from Leonidas provided us with really great fire support, and we were able to improve our own skills by having someone from Leonidas teach their skills to us at Solita,” describes Koskinen.
Leonidas’s employees were also part of the Solita team in the development of an electronic service solution for a certain public administration organisation.
“In this project too, someone from Leonidas played a key role in choosing React as the front-end technology. At that moment, we benefited from the bold choice of technology, even though we were uncertain at first because our own React experts were unavailable. This individual from Leonidas acted in many different roles in the project, for example training the project’s other actors in the final stage of the project. We also adopted the stack chosen by this individual in a sister project. The brave attitude and technical prowess of the people from Leonidas have been of great assistance in many projects.”
Jussi Koskinen names the ability to question matters as the greatest merit of the people from Leonidas.
“The people from Leonidas often challenged the team to discuss questions of why, which made the team focus not only on the work performance but also on the future. Based on my own experiences, the people from Leonidas tried to participate in active discussion and the continuous development of the work,” says Jussi Koskinen.
Solita assigns resources systematically
Solita assigns people to projects in a purposeful and controlled manner. In many cases, Solita’s own people become available from other projects at a good time, but sometimes it needs capacity or expertise from outside the company.
“Solita has dozens of partners in Tampere. Our shared history speaks on Leonidas’s behalf: we have good ‘war stories’ to reminisce about. The main thing is the availability of competent people. Cooperation with Leonidas has gone well, and I believe that it will continue actively in the future as well,” says Veli Ijäs, who is responsible for Solita’s partner network.
Solita has continued to grow throughout its history, and the company has a long-standing history in collaborations.
“Leased consultants have consistently praised Solita as a workplace, since we don’t distinguish between our own employees and leased workers. We have particularly been praised for the fact that we treat all project members equally, regardless of who pays the wages,” says Veli Ijäs.
Harri Lammi from Leonidas, who has worked in Solita’s projects, confirms this praise. “At Solita, we have always been a solid part of the team and closely involved in the work.”
